Welcome to the Charles Ross Sr. Auction House. Gomotorbids has partnered with Charles Ross Sr. of Somers Point, New Jersey to bring you one of the most amazing Earnhardt collections ever assembled!

Charles Ross Sr.

Charles Ross Sr. has been a lover of everything automobile related since the early 50’s. In 1951 Mr. Ross took a job out of high school as a mechanic at a Chevrolet dealership in Pleasantville, New Jersey and never looked back. Mr. Ross left the dealership as top mechanic in 1963 to start his own shop, which still exists as Point Auto Repair to this very day. He was also a firefighter in Somer’s Point from 1957 to 1982 where he achieved the ranking of assistant Chief.

His love of cars and life has taken him to many destinations. In the late 1970’s he began restoring and collecting antique cars. For the better part of the 1980’s Mr. Ross and his wife traveled around country entering his impressive fleet of cars in various shows. Mr. Ross’ collection included a 1956 Chevy Bel Air Convertible, a 1933 Chevy Coupe 6 Wheel, a 1955 2 door Chevy Sedan, a 1955 2 door Chevy Hard Top and an award winning 1956 Chevy Nomad. The time and energy of showing cars took its toll on Mr. Ross and in the late 80’s he decided to pick up a new hobby, NASCAR racing! The rest as they say is history!

Charles Ross Sr.

He took an instant liking to Dale Earnhardt and his aggressive style on the track and the fact that Earnhardt wheeled a Chevy may have helped a bit. He soon turned this hobby into an addiction for collecting Dale Earnhardt and other various NASCAR memorabilia. He became a member of Action’s RCCA Club. He was also a member of the Speedway Club at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and the Daytona Club at Daytona International Speedway. He frequented tracks such as Lowe’s, Daytona, Dover, Rockingham, Martinsville and North Wilkesboro just to name a few. In 1995 he purchased a Dale Earnhardt Signature Series Impala from Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet.

At this time Kerry Earnhardt was the service manager at the dealership and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was changing oil. Mr. Ross became fast friends with Kerry. He began attending the annual Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet reunion. This event took place once a year in October and was only open to people who had purchased signature series vehicles from Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet. During this time he became friendly with the Earnhardt family, and was on a first name basis with Dale. He also frequented Richard Childress Racing’s shop and made friends with several employees and eventually got to know Richard himself.

DEI and RCR would keep Mr. Ross and his wife up to date on all the happenings with charity auctions, etc. Being the charitable couple they were the Ross’ won quite a few items at various auctions along with gobbling up just about every Earnhardt collectible ever made! Their friendship with many members of DEI and RCR also allowed them to get their hands on some very unique items! They also frequented the Sam Bass Art Gallery and became Sam’s best customers.
